NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT
By John Schuricht
This year I would like to focus on two things: pace of play and divot repairs. This last event we had some foursomes that had more than two holes open in front of them. To address this problem Bill and I will be working on the foursomes to place them correctly in order of play. It may be possible that in order to speed up play we might have to move players within a group. Please understand, we will do everything possible to keep groups together. I also understand that some of you are a little bit slower due to physical challenges or just don't hit the ball very far. The goal is to stay within 2 shots of the group ahead of you. If you get behind, send the first two people who hole out on to the next hole. AT NO TIME SHOULD THERE BE AN OPEN HOLE IN FRONT OF YOU.
Another problem is there is too much time spent looking for a ball. Never spend more than five minutes looking for a ball. If you can't find it, place a ball as close as possible to the location you think it might be and add one stroke for the lost ball. Let's say you hit off the tee and can't find the ball. Drop the ball as close as possible to the location where you think it landed. Your stroke count would be as follows: one for the tee shot, two the penalty for the lost ball, three when you hit the ball you dropped to continue play.
When you get to a green please take a moment to repair divots. It doesn't matter if they are yours or not "REPAIR IT." Think about this for a minute, the last thing you want to do is miss a putt due to someone's lack of repairing a divot or ball mark on the green. This also goes for traps. Rake them after your hit. It only takes a minute or two and believe me, "the next player that lands there will be very pleased that it was raked instead of landing in someone's footprint."
Hopefully, within a few tournaments we will be able to resolve this problem and make the pace of play much better.
